Brotato: Primal Dread

Every guide on this site

Quick answer

Start with the beginner guide, then the Evolution overview. Returning players can jump to the 1.2 patch notes; Nightmare climbers want the difficulty changes page first.

Every page on this site in one table, with the question it answers. One line per guide.

Written against build 1.2.0.1, November 2026. If a number here disagrees with your game, the game is right.

How the table is ordered

The table follows the decision it supports: buying, then playing, then patching. Every row links to one page.

Route one: you are about to buy

Read three pages in order. What the DLC adds gives you the content list. Release date and price gives you the money and the base-game requirement. Is it worth $3.99 gives you the decision, including the cases where the answer is no.

If you already own Abyssal Terrors, skip the first two and read the comparison instead. It is the same decision with a different reference point.

Route two: you bought it and you are learning

Start with the beginner guide, which is a three-run plan rather than a list of tips. Then read the Evolution overview before your third run, because the single most common early mistake is splitting between the two paths.

Once you have picked a path, read the matching page: Mecha or Mutation. Those two pages contain the counterplay for the lasers, the oil and the acid, which is what actually kills new players.

The map page and the bosses page are the next step, and they are best read after you have seen wave 10 once.

Route three: you are pushing Nightmare

Read what 1.2 did to Nightmare first, because the difficulty you are returning to is not the one you left: nine enemies were nerfed and eight characters were buffed.

Then read best characters for the buffed shortlist, and builds and synergies for the shop maths that changed in the same update. The patch page is reference rather than reading, but the mutagen line matters if you play Mutation on Nightmare.

How the pages are made

Every page here is written from four sources: the Steam store page for app 4498220, the official patch notes published under the base game's news hub, the game's own achievement list, and the Steam appdetails API. Where a fact is not in one of those, the page says so by leaving it out.

Each page carries a checked date. When the game patches, the pages that the patch touches get re-checked first, which is why the 1.2.0.1 page and the mutagen page were written before the character pages.

Deliberately absent

No codes page, because Brotato has no code system. No tier list, because there is no data behind one. No PlayStation, Xbox or Switch pages, because the store data this site works from is the Steam build. No wiki mirror, because the game's own Codex is better than a copy of it.
