The Jungle is open. Brotato: Primal Dread arrived on 2 November 2026 as the first paid DLC since Abyssal Terrors, and it is not a reskin of the Crash Zone. It is a second 20-wave run, played in a prehistoric forest, with a stat that changes what your enemies look like and how they attack.

If you have been away since the base game, the short version: the DLC costs $3.99, adds ten characters, seventeen weapons, forty items, three pets and the Evolution stat, and it still needs the base game to run. This site covers that DLC specifically, not Brotato from zero: the two Evolution paths, the ten new potatoes, the Jungle's hazard list, and every 1.2 patch line that changes a run.

Before you buy or launch

  • The DLC is not standalone. Primal Dread needs Brotato. The store page for app 4498220 lists it as downloadable content; there is no version where the Jungle runs without the base game.
  • It costs $3.99, and that is the same price Abyssal Terrors launched at. The official announcement quoted $3.99 / EUR 3.99 / GBP 3.39 / CNY 18.00. Base-game discounts do not stack onto the DLC price.
  • Twenty waves, not twenty extra waves. The Jungle is its own run with its own wave 1 to wave 20, its own elites and its own final boss. You do not continue a Crash Zone run into it.
  • Evolution is the headline system. Mecha reinforces weapons and adds stats; Mutation duplicates items. Picking one path is a commitment, because the enemies on that path get worse in exchange.
  • Turn your mods off first. The launch post says it plainly: the game has been updated, so outdated mods cause conflicts and should be deactivated before playing.
  • The free 1.2.0.0 update shipped alongside it. Item Set, Nightmare rebalancing and eight older-character buffs are live whether or not you buy the DLC.

Quick answers

Do I need to own Brotato? Yes. Primal Dread is an add-on for app 1942280 and appears in the base game's DLC list.

How much is it? $3.99 / EUR 3.99 / GBP 3.39 / CNY 18.00. The base game is a separate purchase and was $4.99 list, discounted to $2.49 when the DLC launched.

How many new characters and weapons? Ten characters and seventeen weapons. Every one of the ten has a "Win a run with..." achievement, which is the easiest way to check you have seen the whole roster.

Is it on console? The Steam release covers Windows, macOS and Linux. This site only documents that build, because that is the build the patch notes describe.

Three routes, depending on why you are here.

You are about to buy it. Read what the DLC actually adds, then the price and release breakdown, then the verdict page. Ten minutes, and you will know whether the Jungle is for you.

You bought it and you are dying on wave 5. Go straight to the beginner guide, then read the Evolution stat before your third run. The single most common early mistake is splitting pickups between Mecha and Mutation, which gives you both sets of harder enemies and neither payoff.

You already cleared the base game and want Nightmare. Start with the nightmare changes, then the builds page and the best characters by role.
